Frank P. Lively

Executive Vice President of Real Estate

Frank Lively is the executive Vice President of the Real Estate Division and is responsible for determining the policies and strategic direction of the Real Estate Division.  Mr. Lively’s experience in the real estate industry spans over 35 years.  During his career, Mr. Lively has directed investments in and dispositions of assets with an aggregate value in excess of $2 billion.  Mr. Lively joined Helmsley Spear Inc. in 1976 where he was active in all aspects of real estate operations and finance, as well as real estate acquisitions.  In 1980, Mr. Lively joined Pannell Kerr Forster, an international CPA firm.  Subsequently in 1982, Mr. Lively joined Stephen W. Brener & Associates as Senior Vice President, responsible for all aspects of the brokerage and management divisions, as well as management advisory services.  Following his tenure at Brener & Associates, Mr. Lively became President of Lively & Associates, a full service real estate firm.  Mr. Lively joined Wafra in 1997.

 

Mr. Lively holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Manhattan College, as well as a Master’s in Real Estate Finance and Development from New York University.  Mr. Lively was formerly a Director of LXP II, Inc., a real estate mortgage investment conduit, as well as a former Director of LXP Funding.  Mr. Lively is a full member of the Urban Land Institute, and a council member of the Hospitality Development Council.  He is also a licensed Real Estate Broker.

Edward J. Ryan

Senior Vice President/Director of Acquisitions

Edward Ryan is the Director of the Acquisitions Group within Wafra’s Real Estate Division.  He is responsible for identifying, structuring and overseeing all potential investments.  With more than 20 years of real estate experience, Mr. Ryan is directly involved in all aspects of Wafra’s real estate activities, including product creation and management, financings, investments, development, leasing and restructuring.  Since joining Wafra in 1998, he has been involved in the acquisition of a diverse portfolio throughout the United States and Canada valued at more than $2 billion. 

 

Prior to joining Wafra, Mr. Ryan was employed as a Senior Asset Manager and Assistant Vice President of real estate for New York Life Insurance Company.  Mr. Ryan had direct responsibility for the leasing, operation, foreclosure, and disposition of a portfolio of assets, comprised of office buildings, hotels, apartments, and net leased warehouse facilities.

 

Mr. Ryan was an adjunct associate professor at New York University.  He has taught Real Estate Finance and Investment in the Master of Science Program, as well as Real Estate Finance I and II.

 

Mr. Ryan received a Bachelor of Business with a concentration in Accounting and Computers from Iona College in 1984.  He was awarded a Diploma of Real Estate from New York University in 1987.  Mr. Ryan is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Multi-Housing Council, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Yvonne M. Compitello

Director of Asset Management

Yvonne Compitello was appointed Director of Asset Management in 2007, bringing with her over 25 years of extensive experience in real estate asset management.  In her current role at Wafra, Ms. Compitello provides oversight of all managed real estate investments and is responsible for the implementation of operating plans and maximization of investment objectives.  

 

Prior to joining Wafra, Ms. Compitello was a Senior Investment Manager for the Hampshire Companies where she was responsible for supervising valuation methodology, evaluating fund acquisitions, leasing, and sales.  Before joining the Hampshire Companies, she was the Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of the Tower Fund, a $1.4 billion open-end commingled real estate fund of SSR Real Estate Advisors.  There she was responsible for investment performance, raising capital and investor relations.  Previous to SSR, Ms. Compitello was the Senior Vice President in charge of a $3.5 billion real estate portfolio for the MBL Assurance Corporation. 

 

Ms. Compitello holds a B.A. from Rutgers University and is a licensed New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson.

Cord Ernst

Head of Capital Markets/Investor Relations

At Wafra, Cord Ernst is Head of Capital Markets for Wafra Residential Value Invest I, L.P.  Prior to joining Wafra, Mr. Ernst worked as Director of Capital Markets for the Paramount Group, where he had special responsibility for German institutional investors.  Previously, Mr. Ernst worked for five years at Real Estate Capital Partners (RECP) in New York.  During his time at RECP, Mr. Ernst acquired commercial and residential real estate for German investors as an investment manager.  Later on, he became a European Representative focusing on investor relations.  Cord Ernst holds an M.B.A. from the University of Passau in Germany.

Samuel C. Marchese

Real Estate Controller

Samuel Marchese is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the Division’s portfolio companies.  Prior to joining Wafra, Mr. Marchese was a Principal with Investcorp International Inc.  There he was the Controller of the Real Estate Group.  Mr. Marchese has over 33 years in the real estate accounting field and prior to that, he held the position of CFO for Fisher Holdings Corporation as well as other real estate accounting managerial positions at Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company, The Kaplan Organization, and Prudential Insurance Company. 

Mr. Marchese holds a B.B.A. in accounting from Pace University, New York.

Andrew Piekarski

Director

Andrew Piekarski is on the transactions team at Wafra with responsibility for sourcing and executing transactions in the southeastern and southwestern portions of the U.S.  Andrew has 28 years of real estate experience in acquisitions, asset management and portfolio management. In his acquisitions role Andrew has completed approximately $4 billion in transactions across multiple property types and life cycles.  As a portfolio manager, Andrew had the  responsibility for setting and directing investment strategy for an open-end core fund.  Prior to joining Wafra, Andrew was part of the BlackRock real estate equity team for 14 years serving both transactions and portfolio management roles.

 

Andrew has an M.B.A. from New York University and a B.S. from St. John’s University. Andrew also serves as an adjunct professor at St. John’s, teaching a course in real estate finance.

Lola Bellini

Vice President

Lola Bellini joined the Acquisitions Group within Wafra’s Real Estate Division in 2015 with more than 20 years of experience working in the real estate sector. During her career, she has closed acquisitions and joint ventures with a gross value of over $ 4 billion. Prior to joining Wafra, Ms. Bellini founded her own boutique investment and advisory businesses. Ms. Bellini was a Vice President and senior acquisitions officer at JP Morgan Investment Management for eight years and, prior to that, she was with ING Clarion Partners. Ms. Bellini began her career in real estate asset management at Jones Lang Wootten Realty Advisors and, subsequently, at The Blackstone Group.  Ms. Bellini holds a dual B.S. in Finance and International Business from NYU Stern. She is a member of WX (Women Executives in Real Estate) and Co-chair of the ULI Mentoring Program.

Nathan Kim

Vice President

Nathan Kim, a Vice President in Asset Management, brings over 16 years of professional experience in commercial real estate acquisitions, financings, and asset management including the execution of 73 various deals totaling about $ 2.9 Billion within in the U.S., Korea, and Europe.  Prior to joining Wafra in September 2015, Mr. Kim was a General Manager at Samsung Life Insurance in Seoul, Korea where he was initially in charge of overseas real estate investments across major global cities. Afterward, he was in charge of both domestic and overseas real estate investments.  Prior to joining Samsung Life Insurance, Mr. Kim was a Transaction Manager at the Hampshire Companies in Morristown, NJ where he executed various acquisitions, financings, joint ventures, and recapitalizations as well as performed portfolio and asset management.  Prior to joining the Hampshire Companies and studying at Harvard University, he was a manager at an architectural firm in Seoul, Korea where he directed a design team specializing in large-scale condo complex and mixed-use buildings.  Mr. Kim received his Master’s degree in Real Estate and Urban Development from Harvard University and earned his Master’s Degree in Architecture and Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering from SungKyunKwan University in Seoul, Korea.

Sabine Kraut

Vice President

Sabine Kraut has been part of Wafra’s Real Estate Acquisition team since 2003 participating in real estate acquisitions totaling over $500 million.  Her primary responsibilities include acquisitions underwriting, due diligence coordination, new deal origination/screening of all major asset types and strategic asset management oversight for hotel investment opportunities.  She is also responsible for sourcing other select investment opportunities across the real estate spectrum, including those in the private equity area. 

 

Prior to joining Wafra, Ms. Kraut was part of Arthur Andersen’s Real Estate Group where she performed all aspects of financial analysis, valuation assignments on a national and international basis, as well as securitization due diligence of CMBS projects.  One of her major responsibilities at Andersen included her involvement in specific hospitality related assignments including the valuation and analysis of hotel investments and acquisitions. Ms. Kraut’s track record also encompasses considerable experience in hotel management.

 

Ms. Kraut holds an undergraduate degree from Cornell’s School of Hotel Management.  She received her Master’s degree in Real Estate Finance & Investment from New York University in 2004.   Ms. Kraut was awarded a Diploma in Hotel Management in 1995.  She is a member of the Cornell Hotel Society.

Brian McCarthy

Vice President

Brian McCarthy joined Wafra’s Real Estate Division in 2013 as a member of the asset management team.   Mr. McCarthy’s responsibilities include the oversight and management of Wafra’s real estate investments principally located in the United States.  In his role as Vice President, Mr. McCarthy is specifically tasked with developing and implementing property level strategies aimed at maximizing operating performance and investment value across the real estate portfolio.

 

Prior to joining Wafra in 2013, Mr. McCarthy was with the New York State Common Retirement Fund in their global real estate group focusing on the development and management of joint venture partnerships and direct real estate transactions.

 

Mr. McCarthy received a Master’s degree in Real Estate from New York University with a concentration in Finance and Investment.  He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Rutgers University.  Mr. McCarthy is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Alison M. Pepe

Vice President

Alison Pepe’s responsibilities are primarily in the area of investment acquisition, with emphasis on valuation of potential investments, market research, financial analysis, and due diligence review for real estate investments throughout the United States and Canada.  Ms. Pepe has also monitored select real estate transactions located in India and China.

 

Having joined Wafra in 2002, Ms. Pepe has participated in the acquisition process for real estate investments in the U.S. totaling over $1 billion.  In addition, Ms. Pepe has worked on capital-raising efforts, as well as investor reporting functions and fund presentations.  

 

Ms. Pepe has coordinated promotional material for the real estate department, including press releases related to the acquisition, disposition, asset management, and marketing of the existing portfolio. 

 

Ms. Pepe received a Master’s degree in Real Estate Finance & Investment from New York University, graduating with distinction.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Fordham University.  Ms. Pepe is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Multi-Housing Council and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Calvin Kang

Assistant Vice President

Calvin Kang is a member of Wafra’s Real Estate Acquisitions team and focuses on acquisition of office, retail, multi-family, hotel and development projects in the US and Canada.

 

Prior to joining Wafra, Mr. Kang was Vice President and Portfolio Manager in the Alternative Investments department at Hanwha Life Insurance (formerly Korea Life Insurance), where he was mainly responsible for making direct and fund real estate investments.

 

Mr. Kang received a Master’s degree in Real Estate Finance & Investment from New York University where he also received a Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate. Mr. Kang is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.

Andrew Bothner

Analyst

Mr. Bothner’s responsibilities are primarily in the area of investment acquisitions, with emphasis on valuation of potential investments, market research, financial analysis, and due diligence review for real estate investments throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Bothner joined Wafra in August 2016, after graduating from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business full-time MBA program in May 2016. He was a Part-Time Associate for StoneBeck Capital (October 2015-July 2016) and a Summer Investment Associate at AvalonBay Communities in summer 2015. Mr. Bothner holds a B.A. in History from the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Cory Chestman

Analyst

Cory Chestman’s responsibilities are primarily in the area of investment acquisitions with an emphasis on market research, acquisition reporting, marketing and special projects for real estate investments throughout the United States and Canada.  Ms. Chestman joined Wafra in the Fall of 2016 and has experience in real estate, finance, marketing and project management.  Ms. Chestman graduated from the University of Maryland in 2008 with a B.A. in History and also received her professional real estate license during this time.

Matthew McCann is a member of the Acquisitions team and is responsible for the valuation of potential investments, market research, financial analysis, and due diligence review for real estate investments throughout the United States and Canada.

 

Prior to joining Wafra in the Spring of 2015, Mr. McCann was an Analyst in the Real Estate Financing and Mortgage Banking Department at The Bank of New York Mellon, focusing on the financing of acquisition and development projects.  Mr. McCann graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2012 with a B.B.A in Economics.
